Do the terms stanine, grade equivalency and national percentile rank make you shudder? Do you have a student who dreads math and you don’t know the best way to effectively prepare them and keep your sanity? : ) No worries! Dr. Barbara Johnson will present imperative information about teaching methods for elementary math to prepare them to enter the high school world. She will also discuss standardized testing and what it can and cannot provide for your student.
Topics to be covered: How can I reach my elementary student with math concepts? How can I take away fear and replace it with fun in Math? Why test? What will a standardized test tell me? How do I interpret the scores? How do I remedy a low score?
A question/answer section will follow the presentation.
Dr. Barbara Johnson has taught mathematics at the high school and college levels for 37 years. She holds a B.S. in math from Bob Jones University, an M.S. in math from Clemson University and a Ph. D in Educational Studies from Ball State University. Her classroom teaching experience includes Clemson University, Colonial Christian School in Indianapolis, IUPUI, Vincennes University, Ivy Tech Community College of Indiana and Burge Terrace Home Educators. In addition, she home educated her 5 children for 24 years. Barbara is also an author of more than 20 college mathematics textbooks from Basic mathematics through College Algebra and Finite Mathematics.
