Class Description:
American History is a year-long survey of the history of the United States from the colonial period to the dawn of the 20th century. Students will learn about the indigenous societies that existed in North America before European colonization, the religious and cultural background of Colonial America, the trials and tribulations faced by the nation’s founding fathers, the physical growth of the United States, and the great clash over slavery and states rights that culminated in the American Civil War. The course will end with a description of the “seeds” of America’s superpower status as the world approached the 20th century. Coursework will include daily reading and homework assignments, periodic in-class quizzes, tests taken at home under a parent’s supervision, and two research projects.
