Advanced Biology course – also known as Anatomy & Physiology – includes sixteen modules covering human systems such as the skeletal, nervous, endocrine, lymphatic, digestive, respiratory, and reproductive systems. Students will complete 15 out of the 16 modules (omitting the reproductive system – parents may complete the last module on your own with your own student).
Students will engage in multiple topics and competencies related to understanding the structure and function of the human body. Working with topics from basic anatomical terminology to the biochemical composition and physiological workings of the human body, including depth of detail of each major system of the body. Students will learn through reading, video lessons, case studies, collaborative group work, interactive notebook projects, and labs.
Students will be responsible for proper use of lab equipment, lab reports, research, and projects assigned throughout each unit. Dissections of organs most similar to humans will be completed as follows: chicken, sheep, cow and cat. Additional appropriate organ dissection will compliment course work as time allows.
One goal of this course is to prepare students with skills necessary to be successful in future college science classes and medical fields.
Apologia Advanced Biology 2nd Edition: The Human Body STUDENT WORKBOOK
If you wish your student to have their own textbook that they can write in, you will also need to purchase Apologia Advanced Biology 2nd Edition: The Human Body TEXTBOOK.
I have this book for students to “rent” for $15 for the year. However, students will NOT be allowed to write in, highlight or mark in the rental book if you get it from me.
When registering, please comment in whether you intend to provide your own TEXTbook or if you intend to rent from me so I can make sure I have enough ready on the parent night to give to students.
Having already taken a Basic biology course.
Helpful to have previous dissection experience. Typing and basic word processing knowledge also helpful for any lab write-up requirements.
