Annual “Talent Night”

This special evening is designed for the entire family so that your children can have a performance opportunity to showcase their fine arts training.  We welcome speech, drama, art, and musical contributions for this program.

Mom’s Nights

Bring your favorite curriculum recommendations and plan to share how you use these items in your home. Enjoy the special refreshments and “show and tell.” Dads and teens are welcome! Mom’s nights will take place 4 times over the course of the year and are intended for support and information on various topics of interest.

Elementary Drama Camp – Burge Terrace Baptist Church

Auditions will be held in November at Burge Terrace. Drama camp will meet each afternoon from 1:00-4:30 during a week in February. The performance will be scheduled for Saturday afternoon of the designated Drama Camp week. Please contact Alicia Estes at aestes@burgeterrace.org if you are interested.

Academic Festival & Science Fair

This special evening is designed for the entire family so that your children can have the opportunity to showcase their academic achievements from this school year. Tables will be set up in the Family Life Center of Burge Terrace Baptist Church to display whatever project(s) you choose to highlight. Each student should be prepared to stand next to his/her display and explain it to observers. Possible topics include (but are not limited to): literature, biography, essay, history, geography, science, agriculture and/or gardening, math, computer programming, architecture, visual arts in any medium (painting, drawing, photography, etc.), textiles (sewing, tailoring, clothing design, knitting, crochet, etc.), any kind of research or well-developed hobby—the sky is the limit!

Any category of work may be displayed with the exception of music and drama performances. Those are featured at our annual Talent Night in October.

BTCS/BTHE Picnic & Field Day

For students in grades K-6.

We will join forces with Burge Terrace Christian School for a fun day of field activities. Our annual “Indy 500 Tricycle Races” and team relays are included. There is a $4.00 charge for participation in Field Day which includes lunch and team t-shirt. Because of the logistics involved, only BTHE member families may participate in this activity.

Standardized Academic Testing for Grades K5-10

The Iowa Test of Basic Skills (Complete Battery E) is offered to those enrolled as BTHE academic students only. A separate fee will apply to cover materials.

High School & Kindergarten Graduation in the Auditorium

(Reception following)

We will celebrate the achievements of our kindergarten and high school graduates at our 26th annual home education graduation service. Please note that all graduates participating will need to attend the rehearsal with cap in hand. At least one parent from each graduate’s family must attend rehearsal as well.

Fine Arts, Bible & Academics Competition (FABA)

Indiana Association of Christian Schools

Several years ago the board of Indiana Association of Christian Schools voted to allow home educators from the sponsoring Christian schools to participate in the FABA competitions.

Academic Testing

Academic Testing is available in the following categories: Old Testament Survey, New Testament Survey, English, Mathematics, Pre-algebra, Science, History, Geography, Creative Writing, Expository Writing, and Spelling Bee.

These tests are administered online in the computer lab at Burge Terrace Christian School on a specified date in February. There is no limit to the number of entries for academic testing and a nominal fee applies.

Performance Categories

Competition is also available for middle school students (grades 5-8) in the following categories:

Bible — Bible Memory, Bible Teaching, Expository Preaching, Evangelistic Preaching, and Topical Preaching

Music — Female Vocal Solo, Male Vocal Solo, Small Vocal Ensemble, Large Vocal Ensemble, Brass Solo, Woodwind Solo, String Solo, Percussion Solo, Small Instrumental Ensemble, Large Instrumental Ensemble, Handbells, Sacred Piano Solo, Classical Piano Solo, Sacred Piano Duet, and Classical Piano Duet

Speech — Dramatic Interpretation, Humorous Interpretation, Oral Interpretation of Poetry, Oral Interpretation of Scripture, Religious Reading, Declamation, Original Persuasive Oratory, Extemporaneous Speaking, Readers’ Theatre, and Choric Speaking

Art — Calligraphy, Monochromatic Drawing, Polychromatic Drawing, Water Color, Oil Painting, Acrylic Painting, Sculpture, Garment Construction, Textiles, Crafts, Printmaking, Still Life Photography, Landscape or Architectural Photography, People and Animal Photography, Digital Media, Woodworking, and Mixed Media

Please refer to the Indiana Association of Christian Schools website (www.Indianaacs.org)  for the handbook which includes all categories, rules, and regulations.
